A Winter Weekend In My Life + OOTD

February 27, 2018

Hi beauties!  Welcome back to the blog.  A few months ago, I did a post called “An Autumn Weekend In My Life” and showed you a fun OOTD (click here to check it out) and it got a really great response, so I’ve decided to bring it back for the new season.  Keep reading to find out where my GORGEOUS fringe jacket is from!

Around the holidays, I became aware of a Maryland-based photographer named Brooke.  Her work is amazing and her Instagram feed is an absolute dream so basically, I couldn’t wait to work with her!  We set up a shoot for mid-January and long story short, we had to cancel and reschedule about four times because of events and bad weather and this and that.  By the time we finally got to shoot together, we were both so excited and ready to explore Annapolis during our favorite time of the day – golden hour.  Keep scrolling to see how it all turned out!

How amazing are these photos!?  I’m obsessed with them and with Brooke!  Click here to check out her blog.  As far as my outfit details, here’s where everything is from…

Jacket: Anthropologie

Bodysuit: American Apparel

Jeans: American Eagle

Sunnies: Ray-Ban

Boots: Steve Madden

Should I do another “Weekend In My Life” post for the Spring?  Let me know in the comments section below.  Thanks for reading, everyone, and I’ll see you back here next week for another fun post!

My Favorite Bible Verses for Recent Grads ft. The Anastasia Co.

February 20, 2018

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday!  I hope you’re having a wonderful start to your week.  I’m back today with my first post-college graduation themed blog post!  If you didn’t know, I graduated from James Madison University about two months ago and have had a lot of changes in my life throughout those two months.  I moved into my own apartment, started my first full-time job, and celebrated my two-year anniversary of blogging on Allison in Wonderland.  Woohoo!  With these changes, I’ve felt joy, excitement, and gratitude but I’ve also felt nervous and overwhelmed at times.

In college, I was constantly surrounded by sweet, humble friends who poured truth and grace into me every chance they got and now, I’m still surrounded by wonderful, incredible people but it’s different.  When you’re in school, you have all the time in the world to grab coffee with your girlfriends and chat about life or make fun weekend plans over lunch but when you get a full-time job, that time you used to spend sipping cups of coffee goes away instantly.  It’s quite an adjustment and it’s taken some time to get used to my new normal but I’ve found some Bible verses that have given me a lot of peace – I thought they might be able to help you too!

The first one is a verse that has been my favorite for as long as I can remember… Matthew 28:20.  It says, “and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  This verse has always comforted me because it shows that, no matter what happens, the Lord is always there for us.  Sometimes, when I’m in certain situations, I wish God would just tell me what to do or tell me that everything is going to be okay and then I remember, He already has.  Through this passage and so many more, He constantly reassures us that we are being protected.

Another favorite of mine is James 1:2-3 and it says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”  This verse stands out to me because it’s saying no matter what you’re going through, whether it’s your faith being tested from personal doubts or doubts from your community or the situation you’re in, His purpose is only to make your relationship with Him stronger.  No matter how strenuously our faith is tested, He will always come through, and this verse is a wonderful reminder of that.

The last of the verses I’m going to share today is Lamentations 3:22-23.  This is one that makes me weep!  It says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.”  How cool!  Can you imagine loving someone so much that no matter what they did, no matter how badly they shunned you and turned away from you, you still would welcome them into your heart and home with open arms?  I, personally, am very stubborn so this is extremely hard for me to imagine doing but that’s how the Lord feels about us.  He loves us so much!

Throughout the last few months of adjusting to the “real world,” I’ve really appreciated things I can use in my daily life that remind me to live both humbly and kindly so when I came across The Anastasia Co. on Etsy, her prints were just what I needed.  One of the prints I got is even one of my favorite verses that I mentioned above!  The three beautiful prints above are from her shop – click here to check them out!  She has many, many different designs and she also sells other things like notebooks and planners that are pretty adorable as well.

That wraps up this week’s post, thank you for reading!  If you have any favorite Bible verses of your own, please leave them in the comments below – I’d love to read them.  Next week, I’ll be back with a winter version of my Weekend In My Life series, so don’t miss it!

Two Years of Blogging

February 13, 2018

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog!  This week’s post is extra special because I’m celebrating two years of blogging on Allison in Wonderland.  The past two years have been filled with a ton of excitement and growth and I can’t wait to share my highs of this year with you!

Last year at this time, I had just revamped my blog to have my current design.  Click here to check out my “A Year of Blogging” post!  I had recently switched from WordPress.com to WordPress.org and really began putting more effort and time into my posts and collaborations.  As the year went on, not only did I find more and more excitement and joy in writing but I also fell in love with sharing brands that I love with all of you.  I had the opportunity to work with companies that I never thought I would work with and I can’t wait to continue to do that this year!

Another big thing that happened to my blog was the addition of my Home and Healthy Living categories.  They both only have one or two posts in them but that’s something that I’m really going to dive into in the coming months.  As you might know, I moved into my own apartment after I graduated college and I will be doing living room, bedroom, and office reveals very, very soon.  Which room do you want to see first?  Also, I’ve started going to the gym regularly and eating a bit healthier than I did in college, so let me know what kind of posts you want to see regarding those topics!

2017 was the biggest year yet for Allison in Wonderland and I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings.  I wouldn’t of had the success I did without all of you reading my posts so thank you so much.  As always, I’ll be back next Tuesday with another post so stay tuned!

My New Mattress + $100 Discount Code

February 8, 2018

Disclosure: Leesa® provided a free mattress for me to review. However, all opinions stated here are my own.

Hi everyone, welcome back to Allison in Wonderland!  As you might know from last week’s post, I moved.  I can’t believe I’ve already lived in my apartment for almost a month!  I’m finally getting around to furnishing and decorating my space and, with a new bed frame comes a new mattress, so I’m thrilled to say that I’m working with a brand named Leesa® (click here) to bring you today’s post.  Let’s get started!

Beginning with the company as a whole, Leesa® was appealing to me because, one, I desperately needed a new mattress.  I’ve had the same full-size mattress since I was born.  Seriously!  I don’t know how it lasted so long and how my back is still intact.  But the other reason why I really like Leesa® as a company is because they’re a young company with good values.  Leesa® has a social impact initiative called the Leesa® One-Ten®.  Through this initiative, they donate one mattress for every 10 mattresses sold and they also plant one tree for every order received.  They’ve donated over 24,000 mattresses to date!  They’ve also pledged to plant one million trees by 2025 so maybe you could buy a Leesa® mattress and help them reach their goal!  I’m sure you’d sleep better at night. 😉 Haha!

I’ve had my Leesa® mattress (click here) for about two weeks now and I could not be happier with it!  Let’s be honest, anything would’ve been better than my old mattress but I’m really, really impressed with this one.  It’s soft and cushiony and keeps me cool at night.  With my old mattress, I would get very hot because I had to insert a pillow-top layer between my mattress and the sheets and now I don’t have to worry about that anymore!  The Leesa® Mattress is also extremely affordable, starting around $500 and ending under $1,000.  From my experience, it’s hard to find a good mattress under $1,000 and they’ve done it.

Oh and did I mention the mattress comes in a box?  So convenient!  If you’re interested in purchasing a Leesa® mattress, they’ve been so nice to give me a discount code to share with you that will take $100 off your order.  Just enter ALLIESANTMYER when you purchase the Leesa® Mattress and you’re set!  The code is good forever, so keep it in mind even if now isn’t the perfect time for you to order a mattress.  If you decide to head over to the website right away, I also want to tell you about their President’s Day sale!  Leesa® is offering $125 off the Leesa® Mattress and a free pillow until the 21st of February.  What a deal!

That’s all for this week’s post, thank you for reading!  If you’re interested in Leesa® or a Leesa® mattress, click any of the links I posted above to go to their website, or click here to check out their cute Instagram.  Next week’s post will be another fun one so be sure to come back next Tuesday.  Have a great week!

A Pop of Color ft. Wild Side Vintage

January 30, 2018

Hey babes!  Today, I have a new fashion post to share with you.  A few weeks ago, a company called Wild Side Vintage contacted me and asked if I wanted to be a brand ambassador for them and, after I checked out their website and social media, I said heck yeah!  They have such a cool vibe and I can’t wait to show you what I got.

After browsing on wildsidevintage.com (click here), I fell in love with so many different pieces.  They have it all – tees, dresses, jackets, everything!  I ended up purchasing an awesome orange jacket and it’s incredible because it’s super cute but also keeps you really, really warm!  Check it out below.

If you’re headed over to Wild Side Vintage’s website and want to save on their already amazingly affordable prices, use the code WSVFRIENDS at checkout.  In case you were wondering, I don’t receive any benefits if you use this code, so it’s totally just for you all.  I know you’re going to find so many cute things!

If you end up purchasing something, let me know in the comments below – I’d love to see!  Well, that wraps up this week’s post but come back next week for a fun celebration post!

I Moved

January 23, 2018

Hi cuties and welcome to the first post in my new “Home” series!  As you can tell by the title of this post, I moved!  Because I have this awesome new space, over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be doing a few room reveals (living room, bedroom, office) and I can’t wait to show you how it all turns out.  Keep reading to hear how I plan to decorate my place!

So as you might know, I graduated from James Madison University last month (graduation post linked here) and I’m proud to say I’ve finally begun my first full time job!  Anyone want to see a post full of corporate job outfit ideas?  I’m having a blast in my new role and in my new home but it’s definitely been an adjustment.  In college, I lived off-campus for a couple years so I was used to apartment life but, before, the apartments were always furnished and you couldn’t put anything other than a tack in the wall so it’s a breath of fresh air to actually get to decorate how I want to!  I’m going for a mid-century modern and scandinavian vibe and me and my Pinterest boards couldn’t be happier about it.  I’ve been lucky enough to find some incredible deals on furniture and rugs and, as soon as all my pieces get delivered, I’ll be back to show you how it all turned out!  Which room reveal do you want to see first?

Let me know in the comments if you moved recently or if you’re moving soon – I’d love to hear your design tips!  Have a wonderful week and I’ll see you back here with another post on Tuesday.  Bye!

My New Years Goals

January 16, 2018

Hello and happy Tuesday!  In today’s post, I’m sharing some of my personal goals for the new year.  I’ve never been one to make a big deal out of my yearly goals so I thought maybe publishing them would give me accountability in (hopefully) achieving them.  Let’s get into it!

I’m breaking down my goals for 2018 into three categories: physical health, mental health, and spiritual health.  As far as physical health, I’d like to make myself go to the gym at least four times a week.  Throughout my years in college, I was constantly driving back and forth between Virginia and Maryland, traveling, doing schoolwork, and a million other things so I wasn’t able to make going to the gym a priority.  Now that I have more of a set routine, I’d like to get back into working out!  Another goal that goes hand in hand with going to the gym is eating better.  When I get busy or stressed, I tend to make some unhealthy food choices and that’s not good in the long run so I’ve been thinking about trying meal prepping.  Has anyone had success with it?

Moving onto mental health, I’d like to focus on being positive and consistent this year.  I wouldn’t say I’m a negative person but I definitely let people and situations get to me sometimes and I’d like to stop that this year.  Being positive with yourself and others is so important and my whole life could be affected by making a few small changes.  Being consistent goes along with that as well!  I’d like to be more consistent as far as being positive, going to the gym, eating healthy, things like that.  I’ve learned that I thrive when I’m in a routine so I hope making an effort to be more consistent helps me succeed in the coming year!

As far as my spiritual health, I will make a point to go to church more often.  Throughout college, I went when I could but if I got busy, it was always the first activity I canceled.  Thankfully, I had other religious organizations that poured into me during the week but none of them were the same as a church service and I miss it!  I just moved (moving blogs coming soon!) so I’m in the process of finding a new church to call home and I can’t wait to get more involved.

I’ll keep you updated with my how my goals are playing out as the year progresses!  Did you make any goals of your own?  Let me know in the comments.  Have a great week and I’ll see ya next Tuesday!

Movie Round-Up: Best Movies of 2017

January 9, 2018

Hi babes!  I’m writing today about something I’ve never talked about on my blog before and that’s my favorite movies of the year.  I absolutely love watching films and going to the movies so I thought I’d share the ones I loved the most from 2017!

The first movie I was obsessed with in 2017 was Wonder Woman.  Wonder Woman is a DC movie and typically I like Marvel movies better but this one was incredible!  I’d never heard of Gal Gadot before seeing her in this movie but she was insanely good.  It was cool to see so many powerful women all in one movie and I can’t wait for the next one to come out!

Lion.  This is my favorite movie that I watched all year!  It’s about a little boy who accidentally gets taken across India and, throughout the movie, we watch his life as an orphan unfold and the journey of him finding his home.  By the end of the movie, I was crying so hard and the movie was so good and it really put some important things in perspective.  My boyfriend and I watched it on Netflix, so if it’s still on there, go watch it!

La La Land.  I loved this movie!  I am not usually one for musical theatre type of movies but I really enjoyed this one.  Emma Stone is one of my favorite actresses and her and Ryan Gosling are perfect together!  The soundtrack from this movie was also really, really good so this one is a must-see as well.

Another one of my favorite movies of the year was Beauty & the Beast!  It was SO cute!  I loved the live action Cinderella movie that came out a few years ago so I was pretty sure I was going to like this one but it exceeded all my expectations.  Emma Watson was amazing.  I highly recommend this movie for all Disney lovers!

Thank you for reading about my favorite movies of the year!  What were yours?  Leave them in the comments section, I’d love to hear.  Have a great week and come back next week for another new year’s themed post!

What I Got For Christmas // 2017

January 2, 2018

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday!  I hope you had a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year’s.  I absolutely adore the Christmas season and I’m so sad that it’s come to an end but I’m excited to get started with 2018!  I have a lot of fun things happening this year so get ready for some exciting blogs.  This week, I’m doing a “what I got for Christmas” type of post but I’m only going to share a few items so let’s get started!

This Christmas, I thankfully received a lot of clothing but my absolute favorite piece that I got was a fuzzy pullover quarter zip!  It’s called the Thread & Supply Wubby Fleece Pullover and you can click here to check it out.  Mine is from Nordstrom and it’s seriously the softest thing I’ve ever owned!  When I originally found it online, it came in two colors, Ivory and Charcoal, but I’ve also seen it in pink and red at other stores.  This is definitely gonna come in handy for those cold winter days!

Another one of my favorite things I got for Christmas was a dresser.  If you read my last couple blog posts, you would know that I graduated college recently so I’m actually moving into my own apartment!  I’m going to do a whole blog series on decorating my new space but here’s a little sneak peek as to what design style I’m going for.  The dresser I got is from West Elm and it’s called the Mid-Century 3 Drawer Dresser – click here for a link if you wanna check it out.  It’s typically around $600 or $700 but I got mine at the West Elm outlet in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and it was just under $300.  What a deal!  I’ve gotten a lot of wonderful deals on all the furniture I’ve purchased so far so check back in a couple weeks to see my moving blogs where I’ll include information on where and how I bought everything.

Those are the only items I’m going to share in this post because I really want to focus on the real meaning of Christmas which is spreading positivity and spending time with your friends and family to share the love of Jesus and to celebrate Him.  This year has been so incredible for me and I’m so thankful for that.  I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings and I wish the best to all of you as well!  I’ll see you next week for a 2018 themed post.  Have an awesome week!

Being a Tourist In: Nashville

December 26, 2017

Hey travelers, merry Christmas!  I hope your holiday was filled with friends, family, and maybe even a little bit of snow!  Welcome to my Nashville, Tennessee travel guide.  After my college graduation last week, my boyfriend and I visited music city for a few days and it was AMAZING so keep reading to hear all about what we did while we were there!

Starting off, we stayed in an Airbnb instead of a hotel.  It was our very first time using Airbnb and it ended up being perfect for us.  We rented an entire apartment and it was only around $80 a night, which is a lot cheaper than most of the hotels in the Nashville area!  We were only about fifteen minutes away from the downtown area and the apartment was the cutest!  We will definitely be using Airbnb for our next getaway.  If you haven’t used Airbnb, use this referral link (www.airbnb.com/c/allisons3280) to get started with planning your next trip!

From Harrisonburg, it took about eight hours to get to Nashville.  Because we wanted to have a chance to explore before the sun went down, we left at four o’clock in the morning and it was a pretty smooth drive.  We were a bit surprised though, when we were driving, because the clocks switched back – we had changed time zones and didn’t know we were going to!  It ended up being really convenient because we got there a whole hour earlier than expected but it definitely threw us off for a second!

When we got to the city, we hit the ground running.  Nashville is known for good antiquing, which is something my boyfriend and I both love to do, so we went to all the best shops.  We started with the Nashville Farmer’s Market, which isn’t an antique shop but was still a good way to meet some local people and get a feel for what was to come.  Next, we went to the 8th Ave Antique Mall and this is where I hit the jackpot!  Coming to Nashville, I only wanted one thing and that was a cow skull to hang as decoration in my new apartment and I found it!  Speaking of my new apartment, keep an eye out for moving blogs – they’ll be coming soon!  Moving on from that shop, we headed to Gaslamp and Gaslamp Too and these were two shops that I loved.  They had so much inventory and a good variety of styles and it wasn’t crowded at all.  After this, we headed to the Downtown Antique Mall and this one has to be my favorite out of all of them.  It’s located in this really cool, old building and I wish I could live in it!  It had a really neat vibe and I’d love to go back.

We had had a pretty packed day with the long drive and then running around to all the different shop locations but we ended our day with walking the strip.  This is where all the famous Nashville bars and souvenir shops are.  It was awesome!  There was so much to do and look at and in every bar you could hear someone performing that could’ve been on the radio and it was a really incredible experience.  My favorite tourist shop along the strip was Jack Daniel’s Genuine Goods.  They had a lot of cute trinkets that weren’t too cheesy and they actually had a really great decal selection as well!  I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re visiting Nashville for the first time.

Day two in Nashville was jam packed just like day one.  We started off with going to the Loveless Cafe for brunch!  I had read about the Loveless Cafe but hadn’t seen many pictures and it was so much cooler than I expected!  It was more of a compound rather than a restaurant – they had a general store, souvenir shop, and a wedding venue all on the same property!  I got pancakes and my boyfriend got a breakfast sandwich and they were both pretty good.  Not to-die-for but the atmosphere was one of a kind.  Next, we drove to Hey Rooster General Store because I had heard they had some cute Nashville apparel and I wanted to pick up something to remember this trip by.  It didn’t disappoint and I wish I could go back every weekend!

The Nashville Parthenon was next on our list and we loved it!  It’s surrounded by a little park and walking around it was a good breather from the city buildings.  Luckily, it wasn’t too cold during our time there so we were able to enjoy our time.  From there, we walked about a block over to a cookie dough shop called No Baked.  No Baked was one of my favorite places we visited!  It’s basically an ice cream shop but instead of ice cream, it’s cookie dough that you can eat.  There were a ton of cookie dough flavors and the woman that served us was so sweet.  Coming here is a must!

After getting our sugar fix from No Baked, we drove across town to the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge.  This gave us an amazing view of the Nashville skyline and you can see the strip from the bridge too.  Parking is also really convenient around the bridge so if you’re looking for something to do around the strip in the daytime, this is it!  The Nashville mural was next on our list.  Somehow, almost no one else was around when we got to the mural!  It’s an extremely popular tourist location so I guess we just got lucky but it was so fun to be able to see it in person after seeing it on Instagram and Pinterest for so many years.  For dinner that night, we went to the Flying Saucer and it was really low-key and wonderful.  We will definitely be going back next time we’re in Nashville!

Sadly, our third day in Nashville was our last day.  We got a pretty early start and headed to downtown Franklin, TN.  This is a town that’s about thirty minutes outside of Nashville but it’s definitely worth the drive.  They had the cutest little strip of shops (with an Anthropolgie!) and everyone was so, so nice.  That’s something that we found a lot of in Nashville – nice people!  We ended our whirlwind trip with a coffee break at a coffee shop called the Frothy Monkey and were on our way.

I’m so thankful to have had such a wonderful graduation trip and I can’t wait for the next time I’ll be back in Nashville.  Everyone was so sweet and the city has so much to offer!  Thanks for reading this week’s post and I’ll be back next week to show you what I got for Christmas this year.  See you then!
