Things I'm Loving Right Now

About Me

May 1, 2018

Hey babes, welcome to May!  I can’t believe the summertime is almost here!  Thank goodness, right? To celebrate the warmer weather and to welcome all the new readers I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with over the last few months, I wanted to do a get-to-know-me post.  Let’s get started!

1.  My full name is Allison but I go by Alli!  Recently, I’ve had a lot of people on Instagram spell my name differently or call me a different name all together (like Allisan and Allisa) and I think it’s because my Instagram name is my first and last name combined (@allisantmyer) and people get confused because they don’t know my last name begins with the S.  I don’t mind though, it’s interesting to see what spelling variations people come up with!

2.  Mashed potatoes are my favorite food!  Specifically, the Bob Evans Original microwaveable mashed potatoes from the grocery store.  They are seriously SO GOOD.  Pair them with steak or chicken and broccoli and you’ve just made my homemade dream meal.

3.  For college, I went to James Madison University!  I graduated in December 2017 with a degree in Media Arts & Design and a concentration in Integrated Advertising & Corporate Communication.  While I was there, I was involved in a many different clubs and organizations and I had a great time!  Click here to check out my post about my JMU experience.

4.  I hate hate hate doing the dishes but I could vacuum or do laundry all day long.  I don’t know what it is about doing the dishes but a dishwasher will definitely be at the top of my list of things to look for next time I move.

5.  I work full-time at a marketing agency.  I’ve had a few people ask me if I blog full-time but nope!  I spend my days brainstorming and producing different projects for our various clients and it’s awesome!  Would you be interested in reading a post about what it’s like to work in the marketing and advertising industry?

6.  My favorite Netflix show right now is Gilmore Girls!  Over the last few years, some of my other favorites have been Friday Night Lights, New Girl, and 90210.  Gilmore Girls is so cute and relatable and I’m so glad there are so many seasons because I don’t have TV in my apartment so Netflix is all I got.

7.  At the end of the month, I’m going on a road trip to a state I’ve never been to before.  Any guesses?

8.  At some point in my life, I want to live in another state.  I’ve lived in Maryland my whole life (except the four years I lived in Virginia for college) and I want to experience something different.  I’ve thought about Arizona, Utah, or New Mexico.  Do any of you live there?

9.  My interior design style is a cross between mid-century modern, bohemian, and southwestern.  I’ve spent the last few months decorating my new apartment this way and it’s been so fun!  Click here to check out my living room and click here to check out my bedroom.  My office and kitchen reveals are coming next!

10.  Saturday is my favorite day of the week, especially now that I’m working a full-time job.  You can sleep in and still have plenty of time left in the day and you don’t have to worry about doing anything stressful the next day because it’ll still be the weekend!  What’s your favorite day of the week?

That’s all for this post!  I hope you learned a little something about me that you didn’t already know.  Next week, I’m thinking of writing some of my best tips for getting back into shape for the summertime.  Would you be interested in reading that?  Let me know in the comments.  Have a great week!

My BEDROOM Reveal

April 24, 2018

Hey cuties, happy Tuesday!  Welcome to the newest post on the Allison in Wonderland lifestyle blog.  As you can tell from the title, today’s post is my next apartment room reveal.  I asked you all in my living room reveal post (linked here) which room you wanted to see next and so many of you said my bedroom so here it is!  Keep reading to see how I decorated it and where everything is from.

Walking into my bedroom, the first thing you see is a woven wall hanging and a basket.  In my bedroom, I really wanted to carry in the southwestern theme I have in my living room but I also wanted to add some bohemian touches and white/off-white decorations to brighten up the space.  The wall hanging was an absolute steal at $20 from Marshall’s.  I got it about three months ago so I’m not sure if they still have the exact one in stock but I know they always have a bunch of different styles.  My basket (click here) and blanket (click here) are both from Target and they were such good buys!  I’d seen the blanket in the store a million times before I actually bought it and I’m so glad I finally did.  It’s super soft and pretty thick so it keeps you nice and warm!

Moving into the main section of the room, my bed frame is from Joss & Main (click here)!  When I bought it back in 2016, it was only about $200 and I can’t believe it’s held up as well as it has.  It’s not hard to put together and is easy to take apart if you have to move it from apartment to apartment!  As I mentioned in a previous post (click here), my mattress is from Leesa®!  I’ve had my new mattress for about four months and it’s honestly the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on.  I definitely made the right choice in choosing a Leesa®!  If you’re needing a new mattress and you’re interested in purchasing a Leesa®, click here and use the code ALLIESANTMYER at checkout for $100 off your Leesa® mattress.

My bedding is one of my favorite parts of the room!  I purchased it from Designer Living (click here) and I’m obsessed.  I love how the white brightens up the room and it’s somehow really easy to keep it clean.  Right now, the set is $110 and comes with a comforter, two regular-sized pillow cases, two bigger pillow cases, and two little accent pillows.  Such a deal!  The pink, white, and gray pillow I have on my bed is from Kaekoo (click here).  Her pillows are so, so beautiful and this one fits the color scheme of my bedroom perfectly!

My nightstands are also some of my favorite items I found for my bedroom.  I have two, one on both sides of my bed, and it was under $100 for both from T.J. Maxx!  They’re mango wood and I liked that because mango wood has so many different tones in it that it pretty much can match whatever other wood accents are in the room.  The knickknacks on my nightstands came from random little places but my light pink lamps and white lamp shades are from Target (click here).

Moving onto my walls, the white cactus decals are from an Etsy shop called looksugar (click here).  Initially, I wanted to put up removable wallpaper in my bedroom but when I came across these removable decals, I fell in love!  They add so much to the room but are very subtle at the same time and they fit my southwestern/bohemian theme wonderfully.  My sheep print is also from Etsy but this one’s from a shop called LittleLadyPrintShop (click here).  The white frame is from Michael’s (click here) – it’s the same one I have in my living room!

Another one of my favorite finds is my dresser.  It’s from West Elm (click here) but I went to an outlet and got it for only $250.  It was over 50% off because it has a little chip on the front but honestly, I think the chip just gives it a little character!  The two decorative vases on my dresser are from Michael’s and the wooden box was a gift from a friend.  I like how the vases are a way to add some greenery to the room but also keep it simple and clean at the same time.  Next is my absolute favorite piece in my entire apartment and that’s my cow skull.  I know it’s not everyone’s style but I bought it a few months ago at an antique shop in Nashville and I think it’s so cool!

I ordered my mirror from Houzz (click here) and it’s exactly what I was looking for!  The wood ties in so well with the wood of my dresser and nightstands and it’s sturdy enough that I can hang a bag or two off the corners.  Lastly, my rug is from Overstock (click here) and it’s the piece I based my entire bedroom around.  It has gray, blue, white, pink, and yellow/orange accents and it was so fun finding pieces to match it!

That’s all for my bedroom reveal post.  This was a really, really fun room to put together so I hope you like it!  I only have two rooms left to share with you – my office and my kitchen.  Which one do you want to see next?  Let me know in the comments below.  See you next Tuesday!

Purses + Plants

April 17, 2018

Hey hey plant-loving beauties!  How are you?  I’m back this week with a very Spring-themed post and I couldn’t be more excited to get some greenery into my blog.  The weather has (finally) been warming up here in Maryland so let’s hope it stays that way.  Keep reading for some cute accessories for this season!

Starting off with my bag, isn’t it the cutest thing you’ve ever seen!?  I typically carry neutral-colored bags but this one really caught my eye.  The green pairs so well with the oranges and yellows that are frequenting my wardrobe lately so it worked out perfectly!  This bag is from Fossil and it’s called the Ryder Satchel (click here).  It comes in five colors and could not be more perfect!

My watch is also from Fossil!  This one is called the Q Neely watch (click here) and, in my opinion, it’s the perfect watch for any skin tone.  At first, I was wondering if it would look strange because it’s so close to the color of my skin but I think it looks great!  It’s perfect for looking cute and professional but doesn’t draw too much attention.

That’s all for this week’s post!  I’m so glad everyone has been loving all the fashion posts I’ve been putting out lately.  It was one of my goals for this year to dive into home and fashion more and I’m doing it!  Speaking of home, make sure to come back next Tuesday for another ROOM REVEAL!  Woohoo!  Have a great week!

Spring Fashion Picks ft. Old Navy

April 10, 2018

Disclosure: Old Navy provided this clothing for me to review. However, all opinions stated here are my own.

Hi beauties and happy Tuesday!  Today, I’m celebrating the warmer weather of spring by sharing a few of my favorite picks from Old Navy.  Springtime is one of my favorite seasons to add new staples to my wardrobe because of all the color that’s being sold in stores.  Keep reading to see two of the outfits I put together – an everyday outfit and an outfit for working out!

I think this first outfit is one of the comfiest outfits I could’ve put together!  Starting off with my tank (click here), it’s so soft!  This is actually a tank that I think would be good for normal wear and active wear.  The shade of green is a perfect accent color for the light blue of my denim shirt and I think it was a great buy!  Moving on to my chambray shirt (click here), I love love love mixing denim with denim.  Pairing different washes together is so fun and adds a lot of dimension to your outfit!  Next up are my jeans (click here).  They’re one of my favorite things about this outfit!  Not only is the denim super flexible but the floral detail spices up the look in such a spring-appropriate way by matching the outdoors.  I love how this look has so many aspects but it all ties together perfectly!

This next outfit is perfect for getting back into shape for the spring and summer seasons.  My favorite thing about fun activewear is that it gets you in the mood to get healthy again!  When I was in the store, I first came across these bright workout pants (click here).  I scooped them up as fast as I could!  I typically go for darker colors in terms of workout pants, like black and gray, so I was so excited to try something new.  I paired the bright pants with a black sports bra (click here) and a fun, retro-inspired graphic (click here) and I called it a day!

Overall, I’m obsessed with the fun and bold denim and graphics Old Navy is featuring this spring.  If you see something that would look amazing on you, you can check out this line in stores and online!  Do you have any other trends you’ve been loving this season?  Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see you back here next Tuesday!

My LIVING ROOM Reveal

April 3, 2018

Hi cuties and welcome back to the Allison in Wonderland blog!  I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far.  Today, I’m so excited to share my living room design with you!  I’ve been teasing little bits and pieces in blog posts and on my Instagram account for a few weeks now but the reveal is finally here.  Keep reading to find out where everything is from, how much I paid for it, and how I’m liking it!

To start off with the biggest piece in the room, my couch is from Wayfair!  It’s called the Haleigh Sofa and it’s an orange color.  At first, I was searching for a brown couch but then I fell in love with this one!  As you might be able to tell, I have a southwestern theme going on in this room so the orange tones work really well with the other accent colors.  In January, I paid about $800 but it’s not on the Wayfair website anymore so I’m not sure how much it’s selling for now.

The long, wooden shelf on the wall is self-made!  I went to Lowe’s to buy the wood, stain, and screws and, with a little TLC, I was able to put it together myself!  I measured it to be the exact length of my couch so it’s pretty long but I love the look of it.  It’s so sturdy and ended up to be an amazing base for the prints I chose!  I’m actually thinking of selling these shelves this summer in all different lengths.  Is anyone interested?

Speaking of my prints, they’re one of my favorite decorations in this room!  Going with my southwestern theme, I knew I wanted images of cacti and some kind of animal so I hopped on Etsy and did some digging.  I ended up with a desert print (click here), a cactus print (click here), and a cow (click here).  Each was less than $6 for the digital file and I love them!  I got them printed for under $20 each at Walgreen’s and it was so much cheaper than I was expecting.  I found the perfect white frames at Michael’s (click here) and I couldn’t be happier with them.  I definitely recommend buying digital files and printing them yourself – so much cheaper than having prints + the frame shipped to your house!

Moving on to my pillows, the adorable bigger ones are from Home Goods and Kaekoo Pillow Shop.  The pink, white, and gray pillow from Kaekoo is called the Mertice pillow (click here) and it couldn’t fit my theme any better!  Both are so fun and I feel like they add so much to this space.

My gold floor lamp and white, decorative lights are from Target!  I’ve actually had the decorative lights (click here) since my freshman year of college.  I never thought I’d get so much use out of them!  Even though I’ve never actually plugged them in and used them as lights, I’ve used the heck out of them in terms of adding a little brightness and texture to my rooms.  My floor lamp (click here) is also one of my favorite things in my living room!  It’s so simple but adds a nice pop of gold to that corner of the room.

Finally, my blue and gray area rug (scroll down for photos) is from Overstock!  I’ve learned through the moving process that rugs are one of the hardest things to buy online because you can’t always tell what color they’re going to end up being and they’re very expensive for them not to be exactly what you want.  When I found this one though (click here), I decided to go for it.  I love how the colors tie into my gray walls and the blue makes the orange of the couch really stand out.  So far, it’s been holding up really well and I think it was a wonderful and affordable purchase!

That’s about it for my first apartment room reveal!  I’m so glad to finally be letting you all into my new apartment – I hope you love it.  Comment below what your favorite thing about the living room is!  In a few weeks, I’ll be doing another room reveal… should I show you my bedroom or my office first?  Let me know!  Have a great week and I’ll see you back here next Tuesday!

What’s In My Bag?

March 20, 2018

Hi cuties, welcome back to my blog!  Today, I’m sharing the goodies I carry around with me everyday.  I’m constantly switching back and forth from my work bag to a small purse to a large purse but there are a few essentials I make sure to grab no matter what bag I’m carrying.  Keep reading to see what my favorites are!

The first thing I always make sure to have with me is my wallet.  Sometimes though, especially with the warmer weather coming, I prefer to have a smaller wallet to stick in my pocket (or my boyfriend’s pocket).  Lately, I’ve been loving this palm leaf card holder from Thread Wallets!  It’s the perfect size for sticking your ID, credit card, and some cash in if you’re going for a fun bike ride or walking on the boardwalk.  I love it!

I also always make sure to bring hand-sanitizer and hand lotion with me wherever I go.  The last few months have been pretty rough with sicknesses going around and I want to make sure I stay healthy!  For hand-sanitizer and hand lotion, Bath & Body Works is the way to go.  I recently bought their new Guava hand cream and it smells like a dream!  It’s such a light and airy scent and it’s perfect for the spring and summer seasons!

Another important item in my bag is my glasses.  Thankfully, my vision is good enough where I don’t need to wear my glasses all the time but they’re good to have on hand for when I need to throw them on.  The pair I’m wearing right now is this pair from Warby Parker.  I’ve had them for a little over a year and I love them.  It’s my favorite pair I’ve ever had!

The last item that I always make sure to have with me is my phone!  I have the iPhone 7 Plus and I am absolutely obsessed with it.  My phone case (only $7 from Nordstrom Rack!) is clear so you can see the gold color through it and that’s one of my favorite parts!  Are you team Apple or team Android?  I’m totally team Apple.  Let me know which team you’re on in the comments below!

That’s all for my “What’s in my bag?” post!  Make sure you follow me on my Instagram account to keep up with my day-to-day life in between blog posts.  Have a great week and, as always, I’ll see you next Tuesday!

How To

How To: Keep Your Blonde Hair Healthy

March 13, 2018

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday!  Welcome to another post on the Allison in Wonderland lifestyle blog.  Today’s post is one I’ve been wanting to write for a few months now so I thought it was time to finally sit down and do it!  In the last eight months, I’ve gone from being a natural brunette to a blonde (click here to read my post about my experience with dyeing my hair) so I’ve had to switch up my hair care routine just a bit.  Keep reading to see how I keep my hair healthy!

Starting off with shampoo and conditioner, the products I’m currently using are from a company called Soapbox Soaps.  Soapbox Soaps was founded in 2010 with a mission to empower people to change the world through their everyday purchases.  They believe access to soap can change someone’s life so they donate a bar of soap to someone in need, locally or abroad, for every Soapbox Soap purchase.  How incredible is that!?  The line I’m using right now is their Bamboo Strength & Body Shampoo and Conditioner and it’s doing wonders for the health of my hair.  Constantly bleaching and toning my roots takes a lot out of my hair and the nourishment from this line is exactly what my scalp has been needing.

Another thing I’ve added to my hair care routine is regularly using a hair mask.  About once a week, I pick a day to take time to use the Aveda Sun Care After-Sun hair mask.  In my opinion, it’s a little bit pricey for the amount of product you get but it’s an amazing formula.  It’s not messy and is extremely moisturizing and my hair always feels great after I take it off.  The packaging says to keep it on for at least 2-5 minutes but my stylist recommends leaving it on for a few hours or even sleeping with it on.  With the combination of Soapbox Soap’s Bamboo shampoo and conditioner and Aveda’s hair mask, my locks are in good shape even with all the coloring I do to it.

That’s all for this week’s post!  I hope you enjoyed my hair product recommendations.  If you already use or are going to start using any of the products I mentioned, let me know in the comments below!  Blonde hair takes a lot of upkeep but I think it’s worth it!  Make sure you come back next Tuesday for another brand new post.  Have a great week!

Things I'm Loving Right Now

My Bachelor Finale REACTION: Arie’s Season

March 9, 2018

Hi Bachelor-loving cuties and welcome to my second Bachelor recap!  I’ve been watching the Bachelor and the Bachelorette for years and years now but I only started writing about it last season.  If you want to hear my thoughts on Rachel’s season, click here!  As I said in my previous Bachelor post, I know that the show is a little bit silly and I don’t really agree with their process of finding love but I can’t stop watching it!  All the drama is so funny to me and every season, the girls get nicer and nicer and you can tell they form real friendships with each other so it’s a good guilty pleasure watch for me.

Let me start by saying it was a little bit of a struggle to even get myself in front of a TV to watch all of Arie’s season.  As you might know, I moved into my own apartment in the beginning of January and, while I have a TV, I haven’t set up cable yet.  So every Monday at 8pm, I had to find somewhere to watch the Bachelor.  I am clearly a dedicated viewer!  All in all, I didn’t miss any episodes and I thoroughly enjoyed watching.  I thought they chose a really, really great group of women for Arie and they kicked off the dramatic ones early on, which was very relieving!

Moving onto my thoughts about Arie, I liked him in the beginning!  I thought he was mature, down-to-Earth, and ready to take on the process.  I thought with him being a bit older than the usual Bachelor and being removed from the Bachelor spotlight for a few years, he might have a different perspective than someone coming right out of the process of being on the Bachelorette.  These positive thoughts lasted all the way until the finale and now I’m not his biggest fan.  Although I do agree with him following his heart and choosing the one he sees a real future with (come on, we alllllll could tell he was gonna choose Lauren from the beginning), I don’t agree with the way he broke it off with Becca.  Breaking up with someone should be private and not only did he do it publicly, he did it for the whole country to see.  I can’t imagine how humiliating and hurtful that was for her and I’m glad she stayed so strong when she had the chance to talk to him about it on the live show.

I’m so excited for Becca to be the new Bachelorette!  I think she’s perfect for the role and I can’t wait to see the places she’ll travel to with the men.  That’s one of my favorite things about the Bachelor.  Every season, they go to such cool places that I’ve never thought about going to myself and I love to live through them when they have adventures in new cities.  If you have any ideas as to where you think they’ll go, leave them in the comments below!  I’m thinking South Africa?  We’ll see!

That’s all for this week’s post.  If you enjoyed it, check out my Instagram for a sneak peek as to what I’ll be writing about next time!  Have a great weekend!

My Spring Wardrobe ft. Old Navy

March 6, 2018

Disclosure: Old Navy provided this clothing for me to review. However, all opinions stated here are my own.

Hey everyone and welcome back to the Allison in Wonderland blog!  Today, I’m wishing for warmer weather by jumping head first into my bold spring wardrobe.  Where I live, the winter season has felt extremely long and cold so I’m more than ready to break out the bright colors and fun prints.  Keep reading to see a few of my favorite pieces from Old Navy’s new, spring line!

The first outfit (pictured above) is an outfit I can see myself wearing a ton this season.  The laid-back-but-still-trendy vibe is perfect for casual Friday at work, running errands, and date night on the weekend.  Not many outfits can transition like that!  Old Navy calls this jacket the Sueded-Knit Moto Jacket and I’m obsessed with it.  Not only is it soft to the touch but it’s flattering as well.  Most jackets this length tend to make me look boxy but this one just makes me feel empowered or, as Old Navy would say, #hipowered!  I paired it with a striped yellow tee and white jeans and the look was complete.  This outfit is all I need to take on the rest of this week!

This next outfit is my favorite!  I’ll admit, I do wear a lot of denim in my day-to-day life but not usually denim on denim.  When I saw this white denim jacket, I knew I had to have it!  I decided to take a risk by pairing it with fun, striped AND flower printed jeans and I fell in love.  I’ve never owned jeans like this before but I’ve been wanting to #sayhi to new experiences and new style boundaries so I went for it.  I tied the look together with a navy, v-neck tee and super, super comfortable navy sneakers and called it a day.  I love how it turned out!

This last look is for my lazy-Saturday crew.  On the weekends, I love to relax and take it easy and that transitions into my outfits as well.  This striped #oldnavystyle tee is perfect for that!  It pairs perfectly with jeans and it’s so adorable that you don’t even need to add anything else to your outfit to make you stand out.  I already can’t wait to wear it again!

That’s all for today’s fashion post, I hope you loved it!  If you liked any of the pieces above, make sure you check out oldnavy.com and @OldNavy on Instagram for some great deals and steals.  They always, always, always have a sale going on and their new spring line is incredible!  Comment below what your favorite look was and I’ll see you back here next Tuesday.  Have a great week!

Girls Supporting Girls ft. Things I’ve Made, Wild Public, and Ali & Ariel

March 1, 2018

Hi beauties!  Welcome to another week here on the Allison in Wonderland blog.  I’m so excited to share today’s post with you!  Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to meet another Maryland lifestyle blogger for the first time, shoot on-location in a place I’ve never been, and work with three incredible female-founded t-shirt brands all in the same day.  Keep reading to hear all about my exciting shoot!

Meet Mary.  She’s the cutie next to me in the photo below!  Mary is the blogger babe behind a blog called Easily Inspired (click here to check it out).  We connected online a few months ago and immediately started planning this collaboration!  It’s always fun working with other local creatives that have a similar vision and it was awesome getting to meet her in real life.  Her Instagram feed is killer too – check it out here!

The first brand I want you all to know about is called Things I’ve Made (click here).  Things I’ve Made is run by a girl named Caroline Artime and she’s the sweetest!  She’s so nice to work with and her merchandise is so, so cute.  One of her newest tees is the RAD tee both Mary and I are wearing in the photos above.  It’s amazingly soft and perfect for spicing up a casual jeans-and-tshirt look.  Caroline was even nice enough to give you all a discount code!  For this weekend only, if you use the code RAD15, you’ll get 15% off your RAD shirt.  Hurry and go scoop one up!  You won’t regret it.

The next brand we collaborated with for this post is called Wild Public (click here).  Wild Public is an Etsy shop that was opened in 2017 by a beauty named Kara and she sells tons of graphic tees.  One thing that I love about this brand is they donate 10% of their proceeds and that’s a lot for a small company.  It just makes me want to support them even more!  I had the hardest time picking out which tees I wanted to get but I ended up choosing two – one that says Ladies Unite and one that says Happy Camper.  Scroll through the photos below to take a peek at them – they’re adorable!  Also, if you sign up for Wild Public’s email list, you’ll get 15% off your first order.  Woohoo!

The third t-shirt company we partnered with is Ali & Ariel (click here).  I wish I had known about this company while I was in college because they have so many cute options for big and little sorority gear!  The shirt I’m wearing from Ali & Ariel is the pink one that says “Classic” across the front.  This tee is one of my favorites!  It’s so different from any other graphic tee that I have and I also like that I can still make a statement even though I’m only wearing a t-shirt.  You’re definitely going to want to check this shop out – especially if you’re in a sorority!

To wrap up the final details of our shoot, I want to tell you about the location we shot at because Mary and I really hit the jackpot with this one.  It’s called the Hummingbird Inn and it’s AMAZING.  The Hummingbird Inn is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, in Easton.  Click here to check out their website – they even have a blog too!  We found it on Airbnb when we were scouting locations and their Crisfield Room was just what we were looking for.  It’s decorated in a very mid-century modern style and we fell in love the moment we laid our eyes on it.  We coordinated everything with Eric, the owner, and he couldn’t have been any nicer.  His Yelp reviews are second to none and his Instagram features the tastiest food you could ever imagine.  I will definitely be going back to the Hummingbird Inn as soon as I can to stay as a guest!

That’s all for today’s blog post.  I hope you enjoyed reading about a few of my favorite creative, female-founded brands!  I’ll be back next Tuesday with a fashion post featuring another really fun brand.  Does anyone think they know what brand I’ll be featuring? Leave your guesses in the comment section below!  Have a great week!
