The Wedding Guest List: Figuring Out the Size of Your Wedding

June 8, 2020

Hey hey hey everyone, welcome back to my wedding series! In my first wedding-related post (click here), I shared all the bohemian wedding venues we looked into before booking “the one” – it was so fun to talk through them with you all. Which one do you think we chose? Since then, I’ve shared my wedding dress shopping experience (click here) and tips on how to find the best wedding photographer (click here) and in today’s post, I’m talking all about determining the size of your wedding and finding the right fit for you and your fiancĂ©… let’s get started!

Large? Small? Medium? How do I know what’s the right fit for us? Those are some of the questions that were swirling in my head soon after I got engaged. Something we did right off the bat that I think really helped us was consider the bones of our relationship and what feels right to who we are as a couple and we imagined actually being at our wedding. Who could we not imagine getting married without and what feel did we want for our special day? This really helped us put things into perspective and start building the guest list.

Something else to consider right away is budget. Obviously, the bigger the wedding, the bigger the budget needs to be – the guest count is the biggest determining factor of the budget. For every person invited, there are many costs that go along with them. Even small things, like the difference in printing save the dates and invitations for 30 people vs. 250 people really adds up. With that being said, you only get married once so if you truly cannot imagine getting married without 250 of your closest friends and family there, then 250 people it should be!

Something controversial in the wedding world that I would say should not be considered is who you think you “need” to invite. It’s so hard to sit down and think through all your family, friends, co-workers, etc. and decide if they should “make the cut” or not but at the end of the day, it’s your wedding and you should be surrounded by those who love and support you and that you feel completely yourself around. If the thought of having hundreds of eyeballs staring at you walking down the aisle doesn’t feel right, then maybe a wedding on the smaller side is for you.

Speaking of a wedding on the smaller side, I also wanted to mention eloping! For a long time, I thought we would elope… it seems so wonderful! Eloping can look very different depending on the couple you ask. It can mean going down to the courthouse or epically flying across the world to a remote location… and just about anything in between! A fun idea if you do decide to elope is have a get together a few weeks or months afterwards with all the people that would’ve been invited to a traditional wedding to celebrate your marriage with them that way. How cute!?

For us, our relationship has been pretty low-key so we will be having what’s called a micro-wedding – it fits us perfectly! If you don’t know what a micro-wedding is, basically it’s just a smaller, more intimate celebration. Once you start talking about the size, you’ll know what feels right to you. We’re so excited for our day! Next in the wedding series, I’ll be writing about finding and booking all of our wedding vendors such as catering… woohoo! Talk to you then!

5 Fun Things To Do This Summer

June 1, 2020

Disclosure: Daniel’s Lawn and Tree, LLC. is sponsoring this blog post. However, all opinions stated here are my own.

Hi everyone, welcome back to the Allison in Wonderland blog! Although summer doesn’t officially begin for a few weeks, it certainly feels like summertime outside so I thought it would be fun to share some ideas for new things you can do over the next few months. Because of the coronavirus, this summer will certainly look a lot different than it usually does so keep reading for some social distancing-friendly activities!

STAY CONNECTED TO YOUR COMMUNITY Just because we won’t be going to as many backyard barbecues this summer doesn’t mean we can’t still have a little fun with each other! Where I live, places like local outdoor farmers markets are starting to open back up and it’s been so nice to interact with other members of the community (and also enjoy a little sunshine while we’re at it!). Going there or even just saying hi and smiling at others while walking or running on a nature trail goes a long way! As more and more businesses begin to open, I can’t wait to go out and support as many as I can. Small coffee shops and stores are going to need our help!

GIVE BOATING A TRY This idea’s a little different, huh? Lately, I’ve been seeing so many Instagram photos and stories of people sailing and boating and I want in! It’s such a fun day-long activity and you’re naturally socially distant from the other boats so it’s perfect if you’re wanting to enjoy the water but still keep a little distance from others. If you’re interested in doing this and live near a lake or ocean, look into rental options around where you live! It might be easier to rent a boat for a day than you think!

SPICE UP YOUR BALCONY OR PATIO With all this time spent at home, I’ve definitely been doing some re-decorating and re-imagining of my space. And now that the weather has finally gotten warmer, I’ve moved on to focusing on my outdoor space! Living in an apartment makes it a little harder to work with but my balcony definitely has enough space to bring in a few small plants and some patio furniture. If you live in or very close to Delaware, a local company that has great reviews is Daniel’s Lawn and Tree, LLC. In addition to plants, they also provide tree care in New Castle County so if your backyard needs some help in the landscaping department, they’re the ones for the job. Stay tuned for my new, cute, plant-filled balcony!

FIND A DRIVE-IN MOVIE THEATER How fun does this sound? I know these types of movie theaters are very hard to find these days but if you have one around you and have always wanted to go, now’s the time! I know I’ve been dying to go to one for years. Check what movies they’re playing this weekend, throw some pillows and blankets in the back of your car, load up on yummy snacks, and you’re all set. This would also make for a super cute summer or fall date idea!

FOCUS ON SOMETHING FUN THAT’S TO COME Although I try not to live my life just waiting for the next big event, the last few months have been unlike any others. I think we can all agree this is such a crazy time! Something that’s been helping me get through this time is looking forward to my wedding. I’m getting married in October so I’ve been very focused on wedding planning and getting ready for the big day and it’s been so nice to think about something other than the fact that we’ve been stuck inside for what feels like forever. If you have something exciting coming up over the next few months, lean into it and focus some of your energy there! It will be here before you know it!

That’s all for today’s post on things you can do this summer! Even though this summer won’t be quite the same as it usually is, I’m still so excited for warmer days and enjoying the sunshine. If you end up trying any of these activities, let me know! I’d love to hear how it goes. My next post will be one from my wedding series and it’ll be up in just a few days so don’t miss it. Have a great week!
